Unfortunately, these tools are not accepted in the class. Using prong collars, choke chains, or e-collars can affect the effectiveness of the skills we learn. In order for you to get the most out of this class, we recommend either a plain collar or a harness. If you do not feel comfortable walking without these tools but would like to transition to using other equipment, we highly recommend you sign up for our Custom Canine Coaching program. This gives us the time to transition away from these tools and build your confidence without them before "diving into the deep end."
That depends on your dog’s reactions. This course is not appropriate for dogs who have "big feelings" about being around other dogs or people. We can help limit pulling toward other dogs or animals, but this is not appropriate for dogs that constantly pull and bark at others. If your dog is mostly comfortable being in public and around people or dogs, then this course is absolutely for you.
That’s okay, as long as you can attend the virtual sessions on Friday. These are the most important part of the class, where you’ll really learn the skills needed for leash walking and how to practice them on your own. The in-person sessions are where we put everything into practice in the real world.
The whole family is welcome to come to the class. Since this class will take place at a park, there is a play area where kids are welcome to play. Kids under 12 MUST have an adult present who can watch them, so one adult can focus solely on the dog.
We require that you have a treat pouch on you, as well as different kinds of treats such as: normal dog food, small tasty training treats like Zuke's or Pupford, and some kind of lick treat like a can of dog spray cheese or peanut butter. You will also need a minimum 6-foot leash, as well as a leash that is 10 feet or longer (in addition to the 6-foot leash). Bring the normal collar your dog wears or a harness for walking.
That’s okay! Starting “school” can be intimidating. We are all here to help you and your dog succeed! Good news—we are going to be at a park, and if your dog is able to focus most of the time in public, that’s what we are looking for. If you or your dog ever need space away from people, you are always welcome and encouraged to take some time to yourself and let your dog explore the park, or simply chill out in your car for a short time to help your dog feel better. We all have those rough days. If you are still concerned, please sign up for our Free 15-minute Discovery Call to help you find the path that's right for you.
No, your puppy or dog is the perfect age to learn. This program is designed to work for puppies as young as 4 months old, or dogs that have been around for a while. Puppy, adolescent, senior? No problem—our course is designed to help everyone.
The max size per class session is 6 dogs.
